In mid-June, a green sea turtle laid 105 eggs in a nest at SeaWorld San Diego. A nesting sea turtle will lay from about 50 to 200 eggs each time she nests.
Incubation time for most sea turtle species is between 45 and 70 days. SWSD's green sea turtles began hatching 65 days after the eggs were laid and finished 70 days after they were laid.
The temperature of the nest will determine the sex of the turtles when they hatch. Eggs incubated at lower temperatures produce males; at higher temperatures, females.
Both SeaWorld San Diego and SeaWorld Orlando are involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of sea turtles either injured or cold-stunned.
